The 24 hours before we left…

As is customary, the week before we leave town David gets a little crazy cleaning his office, Robin spends all of her time organizing and the kids watch a lot of TV.

At 3:00PM on Saturday, July 9th David was frantically finishing up cleaning his office when the phone rang…. Robin was in tears that her anniversary necklace had broken! It was the first time she tried it on. David later admitted to me that he wasn’t as calm as he tried to sound on the phone. With the risk of a cleaning crew being sent into his office while we were gone, David shifted his attention to making his bride happy. He stopped everything and started calling around to find a place to fix the necklace. He called the shop foreman from their repair department, who was at her daughter’s wedding, who directed him to a jewelry repair shop that was in a local mall. She used to work in the mall and she told David that this place was more than competent for the repair he needed.

While the necklace was being repaired, David and Ian went for a haircut. Sophia was along for the ride and she got a free root-beer for her trouble. Robin was at home, upset beyond compare at her broken gift. She kept herself busy straightening up the suitcases checking everything over. She verified the weights and made sure that we all packed everything. She was on record as to letting each of us do our own packing for this trip, and she didn’t want to be up all night packing…

After the group left the Cowboy themed barber shop, they went back to the mall where they spent over a half hour searching for a parking spot. They retrieved the oh-so-special necklace. The house had no food left in it so they also picked up dinner and drove home. I guess I should mention the drama of the refrigerator repair; it broke a week before we left and the repairmen never came back to finish the job.

They were greeted by a tearful Robin who was beyond happy that her anniversary gift was fixed. She really wanted to bring it on the cruise with us! We all sat down to dinner, Nieceosaurus had to try on the necklace along with Sophia. Girls and sparkly stuff…

While we were eating dinner we realized that the roofer never showed up for our repair! We were told that they needed payment at the time of service, so this meant that it wasn’t going to happen until we got back from our trip. David let us all know that he had issues with Dell and Xerox at work that he also had to put off until we returned. We also discussed our email migration to Office365, and how now we didn’t have to worry about a power failure with our e-mail turning itself off.

Even though we went into the evening mostly packed, it was still an all-nighter. I am not sure why David and Robin were up all night packing, but it happened nonetheless. The morning came all too early and there was no food in the refrigerator for breakfast. The kids woke up hungry. David and the kids went to the Original Pancake House for breakfast. After that they quested for some new headphones. Sophia found a Princess Tiara headphones. Great purchase. The troup came home and we waited for the ride to the airport very patiently. We were about to embark on an epic vacation of a lifetime!
